Bluey discovers the heartbeat of Italian soccer

CARISSIMO DIARIO (Dearest Diary),

Today was another amazing day! After saying AU REVOIR PARIS (Good Bye Paris) we made our way to Charles de Gaulle Airport where, we boarded our short flight back to Milano, only 1 hour and 35 minutes.

DURANTE IL VOLO (During the flight), everyone was talking about LA  PARTITA AMICHEVOLE (the friendly match) TRA L’INTER E IL MILAN (between the teams Inter and Milan) that was on in the evening at the San Siro Stadium.

DEVI VENIRE ANCHE TU! (You must come too) they chanted , PERCHÉ NO! (Why not!) I replied!

HO IMPARATO CHE (I learnt that) Milano has two legendary soccer teams and that only few cities in the world can boast two international football clubs like AC Milan and F.C. Inter Milan.

LO SAPEVI CHE (Did you know that) LO STADIO SAN SIRO (the San Siro Stadium) is the largest stadium in Italy with a capacity of over 80,000 and that it is considered one of the symbols of the city of Milan, as well as one of the most famous sports facilities in the world?

E LO SAPEVI CHE (And did you know that) the San Siro Stadium has earned the title “La Scala del Calcio” thanks to its own prestige and to the importance of the events it hosts?

HO SCOPERTO CHE (I have discovered that) here in Italy, “IL CALCIO,” or what we call soccer, or football, NON È SOLO UNO SPORT (is not just a sport), it’s a cultural phenomenon deeply ingrained in the heart of Italians..

Soccer here goes beyond the IL CAMPO (pitch). It influences fashion, with LE MAGLIE DI CALCIO (soccer jerseys) being worn out and about on the streets.

After learning some new words, I decided to head out in search of 2 soccer jerseys, one for Bingo and one for me to wear to the match as well as out and about, just like a true Italian.

I bought one of the INTER soccer team for Bingo (a blue and black one) and one of the Milan soccer team for me (a red and black one).

But how does it work when Inter play Milan?

The Milan derby is one of the most historic rivalries in world football.

It is known as Derby della Madonnina in honour of one of the city’s most famous landmarks: the statue of the Virgin Mary on top of the Duomo, which is often referred to as the Madonnina.

Milan and Inter play the Derby at least twice a year due to both teams competing in Italy’s top-flight, SERIE A, but there have often been more PARTITE (matches) between the two Milan clubs over the course of different seasons, with additional meetings in the COPPA ITALIA, SUPERCOPPA ITALIA and IL CAMPIONATO EUROPEO (the European competition).

What a day…..Whether you’re a seasoned fan or new to the sport just like me, the world of “IL CALCIO” is an exhilarating journey through the heart of Italian culture and passion.

BUONA NOTTE,

BLUEY.
