Certification of Competence in Italian

ILC is a licenced exam centre to obtain certification of competence in Italian, issued by Università Roma Tre.

Location and dates:

The Cert.It. exams take place at 473 Lutwyche Road, LUTWYCHE, QLD on the following dates:

Cert. It. Exams: Levels A2 and B1 – Exam dates

  • 10 October 2024: Bookings open 2 September and close 15 September
  • 10 December 2024: Bookings open 8 October and close 14 November

Cert. It. Exams: Levels A1 and B2 – Exam date

  • 7 November 2024: Bookings open 16 September and close 2 October

Cert.It (Certificazione dell’Italiano come Lingua Straniera) is officially recognised as a certificate of competence by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI – Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale) and the Ministry of Education and Merit (MIUR – Ministero dell’Istruzione e del Merito).

The Cert.It. exam is divided into five levels in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR):

  • A1 – certificate of basic competence in Italian as a foreign language
  • A2 – certificate of basic competence in Italian as a foreign language
  • B1 – certificate of elementary competence in Italian as a foreign language
  • B2 – certificate of intermediate competence in Italian as a foreign language
  • C1 – certificate of advanced competence in Italian as a foreign language
  • C2 – certificate of advanced proficiency in Italian as a foreign language

The Cert.It. exams are intended for those who need to provide a certificate for:

  • applying for basic competence to determine personal progress (A1)
  • applying for Italian residency (A2)
  • applying for Italian citizenship (B1) 
  • students wanting to study in an Italian University (B2)
  • Italian, non-Italian and foreign teachers working in Italy (C2)

To pass the exam candidates must achieve at least 60% of the total score in the Listening, Reading and Writing Sections, and at least 60% of the score in the Speaking Section.
