Brisbane already breathes what is best in Italian culture as the traditional Italian Film Festival kicks in and the Italian Language Week gets closer.
Until 16 October, movie enthusiasts have the opportunity to check the best new contemporary Italian cinema and most treasured masterpieces on the big screen.
In an interview with Melbourne community radio station Triple R, Benjamin Zeccola, Chief Executive Officer of the Italian Film Festival, compared the event with a trip to Italy.
“We go to a couple of film festivals around the world and try to pick up the very best latest films from Italy that would be presented at Venice and Toronto. So, we are actually watching films here ahead of their release in Italy,” Mr Zeccola said.
His five unmissable movie list for the festival includes:
. Nostalgia
. Lord of the Ants
. The Hummingbird
. Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams
. The Perfect Dinner
In the wake of the cultural festivities in Brisbane, the Italian Language Festival arrives on 15 October, bringing food, music and fun to the Italian Language Centre (ILC). What’s more, it’s FREE!
Many mixes of English with Italian expressions will be explored during the festival. Students and interested participants in learning a new language are encouraged to take part in the celebration.
“The language is evolving. We will see that throughout our musical activities, ranging from opera to rap. In Italy, we speak so many different dialects. So it is all about understanding how the language changes over the years,” says Giovanna Amatruda, Language Program Liason Officer at ILC.
